Award-Winning Poet Dana Reads at Brenau

Brenau University welcomes the awarding-winning poet Robert Dana - State of Iowa Poet Laureate - for a free and open-to-the-public reading at noon, Friday, April 8, in Banks Recital Hall, John S. Burd Center for the Performing Arts, on Academy Street.   A 1 p.m. workshop follows, also in Banks Recital Hall.   Born in Boston, after serving in the South Pacific at the end of World War II, Dana moved to Iowa where he attended Drake University and The University of Iowa Writers' Workshop.

His poetry has won numerous awards, including two National Endowment for the Arts fellowships and the Delmore Schwartz Memorial Award from New York University. Retired from teaching after 40 years as Poet-in-Residence at Cornell College, he also served as Distinguished Visiting Writer at Stockholm University. He has published 10 collections of poetry including his most recent work "The Morning of the Red Admirals" in 2004.

The Georgia Poetry Circuit is a consortium of colleges and universities around the state that pool their resources in order to bring nationally known poets for readings and workshops to Georgia campuses. Sponsored by Brenau University, the Circuit also receives grants from the Georgia Council for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.
